Cloud vs. on premise
Struct PIM is available in 2 versions, either as a hosted service through the Struct Cloud infrastructure running on Microsoft Azure, or as a self maintained on-premise installation.
I have Struct PIM as a Cloud service, how do I get started?
If you have chosen Struct PIM as a Cloud service, you automatically receive an email with your personal login for your Struct PIM. All you need to do is go the link in your Email, which points to your Struct PIM instance and log in. Everything has been setup for you, and you are ready to configure your Struct PIM for your needs
I will be running Struct PIM on premise, how do I get started?
If you will be running your Struct PIM instance on premise, you will have to install Struct PIM yourself. Follow the installation guides following this article in the Getting started chapter, to set up your Struct PIM application in Visual Studio.
Once you have setup Struct PIM in Visual Studio, you need to deploy Struct PIM to your on-premise environment, and you should be ready to go.
Why choose one over the other?
When Struct PIM runs as a Cloud Service (SaaS), we, at Struct, ensure that all your data is backed up and that your Struct PIM is always under survaillance to ensure minimal downtime. Furthermore, new versions can be rolled out automatically to your Struct PIM Cloud service or on-demand when you choose.
When running on-premise installations of Struct PIM, you are responsible for the application environment and must ensure that databases as well as media assets are backed up according to your disaster recovery requirements.
Any required survaillance will have to be setup be yourself as well.
New versions of Struct PIM are released in the Struct Nuget feed, and you must install those upgraded packages into your Struct PIM application manually, whenever you want to upgrade to a newer version.
Running on premise installations of Struct PIM gives you access to the complete SDK of Struct PIM, and thus allows you more possibilities to extend the standard functionality of Struct PIM compared to the SaaS setup.
