# How to use Publications

### What are publications?

Publications give you the freedom to experiment and tailor your content for different audiences or seasons. You can use them to create limited-time assortments for a summer sale, prepare specific product sets for a new export market with different languages, or even build a dedicated feed for a niche marketplace.

Because publications can have their own unique rules, you can transform data on the fly, like changing units of measurement or shortening titles, to fit the technical requirements of any platform. This allows you to keep your main database clean and organized while still being incredibly flexible with how that data appears to your customers.

Within Struct PIM, publications can be generated as PDF's, or you can send it to external apps, eg Adobe InDesign with EasyCatalog, and work with the data there. This gives you the ultimate freedom of how to structure and display your data.
